WHO WE ARE:

The Continuing Medical Education Department is part of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, residing in the Office of Clinical Education.  The CME Department offers professional development conferences, workshops and symposia throughout the year to provide physicians and other health professionals with information on the latest practices and research in health care.

WHAT WE DO:

  • Plan, produce and manage a full calendar of stand-alone and co-sponsored continuing professional development activities for physicians and other health care providers;
  • Provide co- and joint sponsorship and accreditation for programs produced by University departments and external groups and organizations;
  • Provide consultation and assistance to groups wishing to explore providing CME credits;
  • Report and house data for all CME-eligible activities and teaching within COM, including preceptors, graduate medical teaching, and others.;
  • Manage an extensive database of physicians in Maine and New England;
  • Provide event planning and management services for CME-eligible activities for University departments as well as external organizations.

The Office of Continuing Medical Education is fully accredited by both the American Osteopathic Association and the Maine Medical Association's Council  on Continuing Medical Education to offer continuing medical education credit for both D.O.s and M.D.s. Credit for family physicians is provided for most CME programs through the American Academy of Family Physicians. Accreditation for other health professionals is provided on an as-needed basis, and the CME Office is qualified to provide University CEUs and contact hours.
