UNECOM alumni celebrate 30th Anniversary Oct. 9-12
"If my friends could see me now!"
Alumni celebrated UNECOM Reunion/CME Weekend Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11, with the theme “If my friends could see me now!” The focus was on the reunion classes of 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2003, as well as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the first day of classes at UNECOM. The Reunion/CME Weekend was held at Holiday Inn By the Bay.
CME program chairs Mark Henschke, D.O. ’88, Pharm.D., and Pat Phillips, D.O. ’85, put together a great roster of alumni – mostly from the reunion classes – of speakers for program. Alumni presenting included:
The UNECOM Alumni Association Annual Meeting was held from 12:30-2 p.m., during the open lunch break on Friday. All alumni were invited, even if not attending the CME program.
The traditional UNECOM Founders’ and Alumni Celebration was held on Friday evening after the first day of CME lectures. The reception began at 5:15 with dinner commencing at 6:30 p.m. Bruce Bates, D.O., Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and long-time faculty member was the celebration's key speaker.
Saturday evening featured social activities for the five reunion classes at some of Portland's most-loved restaurants.
White Coat Ceremony
Thursday, October 9
Everyone was also invited to attend the White Coat Ceremony Thursday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. Alumni from the classes of 1982 and 1983 were invited to participate as honorary coaters, assisted by the second-year students, in presenting the white coats to the first-year students. Delivering the keynote address were Gerald Osborne, D.O., professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the new Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. All alumni were invited, even if not from a reunion class or attending the CME program. The White Coat Ceremony was held at Holiday Inn By the Bay.
Pickus Center for Biomedical Research Dedication Ceremony
Sunday, October 12
Sunday featured a dedication of the Pickus Center for Biomedical Research beginning at 11 a.m. The program began with a social and opportunity to meet some of the faculty researchers. The dedication ceremony itself began at 11:30, followed by tours of the building. Light refreshments were served. All alumni were invited, even if not attending the CME program.
